Etheostoma obama - a form of fish in honor of Obama

In honor of President Barack Obama zoologists have named a new species of small freshwater fish, reports the Guardian.

The initiative belongs to the zoologists Steve Lamano from Geosyntec Consultants in Georgia and Rick Maiden from Saint Louis University.





Recently opened is a new kind of fish called Etheostoma obama. This is a small, "pretty skinny" fish. Length males usually do not exceed five centimeters. Scales the fish has an orange-blue, multi-colored, and on the back there is a fan-shaped fin with bold stripes.

Most representatives of this species is toothless, only 29% have Palatine teeth.

The case of Obama — not the first time the name of the American President is called fish. Earlier, a similar honor was already awarded and other American leaders — bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and Theodore Roosevelt. Moreover, all but Roosevelt, was, like Obama, Democrats.





Another type of fish was named after Vice President albert Gore. According to zoologists, naming a new species of fish in honor of the current President of the United States, they wanted to celebrate his contribution to the protection of nature.
