Residents of Ukraine eat more than 3 kg of chemistry per year
In Ukraine, the amount of chemical additives in food is not controlled. This is reported by the press service of the Institute of Ecohygiene and Toxicology.
In Ukraine, there are only two types of food additives: allowed (about 200) and prohibited for use, of which there are only five - E121, E 123, E240, E924 - potassium bromate and E924 - calcium bromate.
The Cabinet of Ministers proposed to reduce the number of substandard products in the food market with the help of new taboos on food additives – dyes, emulsifiers, stabilizers, flavors and preservatives. We envisaged the creation of a network of interregional modernized laboratories to confirm the quality of products and clarify controversial issues of their quality.
According to scientists, not all chemical components that are in the products in Ukraine can be detected.
“The modern material and technical base makes it possible to identify a fairly small list of additives. Laboratories do not have enough materials for inspection, says the head of the testing department Nina Kildiy.
The cost of analyzing each food additive is from 200 to 500 UAH. Since there can be a lot of them in the product, the cost of checking can reach up to 1000 UAH.
Every year, the average Ukrainian consumes about three kilograms of chemicals with food.
