Three animals that made history in 2013
1. Iran claims Pishgan monkey was successfully sent into space
The monkey has successfully returned from its space journey. But after landing in January, the media showed a distinctly different monkey, so the success of the experiment was disputed.
2. Charlie's dog from Adelaide has issued the loudest barking yet
In March, a six-year-old golden retriever named Charlie set a new Guinness record with his bark, the volume of which by standards was 113.1 decibels (dB).
The judges confirmed that Charlie was able to beat the previous record of 108 dB, which was set in 2009 by a German shepherd from London.
3. In the rainforest found predatory “Teddy Bear”
In August 2013, American scientists classified a new animal – a South American long-tailed predator with orange fur. It is the first new mammal to be discovered in the Americas in 35 years.
The creature was called an olingito by a raccoon. It lives on trees in the Andean mountain forests of Ecuador and Colombia.
