Genetically modified mosquitoes released in Panama

Beginning February 15, the British biotech company oxitec mosquitoes oxitec will produce genetically modified mosquitoes in Nuevo Chorillo, Panama. This week will produce some 240,000 GM mosquitoes.
Females of the mosquito mosquito are spreaders of malaria, dengue fever and other diseases. The idea was to produce male mosquitoes that were genetically created in such a way that they produce offspring that will die, thus reducing the population and the spread of disease.
