Research Center for Rare Animals and Plants in South Korea

Architects from the Samoo design studio presented their concept of the future of the National Research Center for Rare Species of Living Organisms in South Korea. The construction of the center is carried out under the auspices of the government, a number of influential businessmen, as well as several “green” organizations. The centre, which could begin construction as early as this year, will have to assume a wide range of responsibilities.

First of all, the center is created so that scientists can conduct research on rare and endangered species of animals, birds, fish, insects and plants. The total area of the complex will occupy, according to preliminary estimates, 16 square kilometers, on which laboratories, greenhouses and special areas of natural habitat for animals of different species will stretch.

The architects from Samoo added that while working on the project, they regularly consult with scientists and representatives of the “green” in order to ensure that the animals contained in the center live the closest to their natural, wild habitat.
The Korean government hopes that the new research center will also become an excellent site for maintaining a population of rare animals and plants. It is planned that in the reserve created on the basis of the center, it will be possible to resume the populations of those living creatures that are on the verge of extinction.

It is understood that the new complex will have to perform not only a scientific task, but also an entertaining and educational one. The Samoo design team does not deny the possibility of creating a developed tourist infrastructure, with the help of which it would be possible to “teach” people how important it is to care for and protect nature, especially today, when human activities have become especially widespread.
