Scientists came to the conclusion that power lines scare animals
An international team of biologists representing the Norwegian University of tromsø and the British University College London, came to the conclusion that the lines, which were previously considered absolutely safe for animals that really scare them. The reason that static objects have an effect on animals, lies in the short-term flares in the ultraviolet range, which occur due to the accumulation in the charge cable. For humans, this process is invisible, but animals are very sensitive to it.
Glen Jeffrey, representing the London College, said that from now known mammals, a monkey and a man are not sensitive to ultraviolet light. All the other animals very subtly perceive it, and that's why I try to avoid places where there are power lines.
Interestingly, the effect of the UV flashes were detected on the example of the reindeer. Scientists are interested in the fact that these interesting animals are constantly to stay at a respectable distance from power lines. But first, scientists believed that the reason for this is to cut down the forest glades, which are associated in animals with the danger. But as it turned out, deer scare away flash on the cable, which spread panic among the animals.
Scientists have also noted that great importance in these processes is the irregularity of outbreaks. If the illumination was constant, then the animals would get used to it. But the suddenness with which outbreaks, forces the wildlife to move away from power lines for several kilometers. In addition to the reindeer, already studied and proved the negative impact of UV radiation on 40 animal species, and scientists believe that to find those to whom this process does not harm, it will be very difficult.
Because of this, researchers are preparing an appeal to energy companies that will request for the search for technical solutions which would reduce or eliminate the influence of ultraviolet illumination on wildlife.
