Electric drive the new generation of E-Wheel Drive Ford Fiesta from Schaeffler

The magazine "auto, motor and sport" held a regular meeting at which the known Schaeffler presented its new environmental development. It was a motor wheel E-Wheel Drive, which are already to the second generation. The German Federal Ministry of technology and Economics was the main financier of the project, within which was conducted this technological development. Its contribution to the development of this technology has made the separation of Ford Europe, giving the chassis of the Fiesta (urban compact).

On the rear axle of the car was equipped with two electric motors, each of which is 40 kW. Torque from the two electric actuators is 700 Nm. If you compare the power and torque with the first generation E-Wheel Drive (it was introduced in 2010 the Opel Corsa), the figures were increased by one third.

The environmental issue was resolved – was constructed motors of the second generation, but the engineers of this innovation could reduce the overall weight of the mechanism (the E-Wheel Drive). Cooling system, two electric motors, brakes, and controllers add to the burden on the wheels is 53 kilograms. Although this figure seems large, but it is possible to compare with conventional machines where the weight comes to 45 pounds due to bearings and brake discs.

This technology is used for the production of electric vehicles. It can also be used to produce hybrids on already done models, which established a standard system of internal combustion engines.
