Low testosterone says the progress of prostate cancer

The results of a study of Chilean scientists say that low levels of testosterone in men with non-lethal prostate cancer indicates the progression of the disease.

Dr. Ignacio San Francisco from the Catholic University of Chile analyzed data from 154 men with prostate cancer for 38 months. The researchers found that low testosterone was associated with a markedly increased risk of developing this disease in a more aggressive form. Scientists have not found the exact concentrations, but I saw a General trend of increasing risk from reduced testosterone.

"These results show that low levels of testosterone are associated with more aggressive prostate cancer. This is contrary to popular beliefs that high testosterone is risky for prostate cancer, and low testosterone is protective," said Dr. San Francisco. "The results of this study provide valuable information for clinicians and their patients concerning risk factors for development of prostate cancer in men. In borderline cases, the presence of low values of free testosterone may help identify: needed treatment, not surveillance," said the Chilean medical man.
