Drinkable book, provide clean water
Water is not just liquid from the tap, without it life is impossible on our planet. 780 million people worldwide lack access to clean drinking water, leading to death every year 3.4 million people due to disease. It's more than the population of the Ukrainian capital of Kiev.
Can to change the situation of a simple piece of paper? Theresa Dankovic (Theresa Dankovich), a chemist from the University of Virginia hopes to be able. Her invention — plain paper, coated with a layer of silver nanoparticles deadly to bacteria. "Silver paper" works as a regular coffee filter. Enough to pass through it, to destroy 99.99% of bacteria and make the liquid suitable for drinking, is as pure as water in the American water supply.
Dankovic cooperates with the international charity organization WATERisLIFE, using in their activities the free services of the advertising company from new York DDB. The idea of drinking book (the Drinkable Book) was born when designer DDB Gartside Brian (Brian Gartside) met with the invention of Dankovic.
Drinkable book is a collection of tips for the safe use of water, non-toxic ink printed on paper coated with silver nanoparticles. The pages of the book is intended not only and not so much in order to get people familiarized with the printed information. Their main purpose is water purification from pathogens of cholera, typhoid and other dangerous infections.
Each book contains 20 pages, each page suitable for use as a water filter 30 days. Page is equipped with perforated edges to make them easier to tear. Thus, people get the opportunity to drink clean water.
Drinkable Drinkable book is a Book in production costing just a few dollars, along with printed instructions. According to Teresa Dankovic, drawing on paper of silver nanoparticles is also difficult. "Technically, you can do it in your kitchen," says Dankovic.
Drinkable book will be distributed by volunteers in certain regions of Africa, China and India, where volunteers will carry out educational activities. In these places the Drinkable Book will simply give people.
According to the chief creative Director of DDB Matt Eastwood (Matt Eastwood), today there are no plans to release a certain volume of books. Already made options in English and Hindi, we are planning to release in Swahili, Haitian language, and others.
