In the Safari Park of England was born the first elephant

In the Safari Park West Midland (West Midlands Safari Park) that in England, for the first time in 40 years see the birth of an African elephant. The elephant men born a week ago with a weight of about 100 kg, is absolutely healthy and feels good.

His mother was the 22-year-old elephant named five (Five) who got pregnant by artificial insemination. The father of the baby was an elephant living in a wildlife Park in South Africa. His sperm is stored in a special laboratory in France.

The elephant, which has not yet given a name, was the second elephant born by artificial insemination. The first was the elephant, which was born in 2013 in the zoo of Vienna (Vienna Zoo).

The methodology was developed by experts of the Berlin Institute (Berlin Leibniz Institute), dedicated to research for zoos in the field of wildlife and work closely with Safari Park West Midland.

All this time, pregnant about five, which arrived at West Midlands Safari Park in 1998, care of the senior warden Andy Plumb (Andy Plumb). We were very happy when came to light this cute baby, which is an exact copy of her mother — says Mr. Plumb.

— All 22 months of pregnancy, five felt and behaved well, only two weeks before the birth her personality has changed, — said the caretaker. – She became somewhat irritable and a little fault with the staff, but overall it was good.

Themselves the birth took place normally, without any deviations. Despite the fact that this is the first offspring of five she became a wonderful and caring mother. Between her and the elephant were adjusted close contact, explains Andy Plumb.

— Actually we are all very happy that this experiment was successful and five elephant was born, which has become her exact copy. I still remember the day when a young, six-year-old five for the first time crossed the threshold of our Safari Park, but now she became a mother herself. I think it's great!

It is worth noting that five was left orphaned after poachers shot her mother. She was brought up in a private orphanage in Pretoria (South Africa) where and arrived at Safari Park West Midland (Bewdley, Worcestershire).
