Scientists have invented a cost-effective air filtration system

Scientists led by Professor Jeff Obburdon from the Department of civil and environmental engineering, has devised a system of filtering that allows to control the contamination of indoor air, even very dusty and smoggy. The system is installed on the fan of any type and able to remove from indoor air particulates smaller than 2.5 microns in diameter, as well as to reduce the level of volatile organic compounds.

Due to its competitive cost, the novelty is ideal for use in social institutions. For example, hospitals, kindergartens, residential buildings, offices, etc.

The development of this system is timely in light of recent who report on the risks of ingress of particles of PM2.5, when inhaled, are associated with a range of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, including cancer.

A simple but effective system has been tested in the harsh conditions of smog in one school in the province of Rio in February this year, when the Sumatra fires, and a standardized measure of the degree of air pollution (PSI) in the country amounted to 750 units is nine times more than the limit set by the who. Despite the fact that the room in the school was very smoky, the system cleared the air from PM2.5 to a safe level, according to the website ozemle.net.

As expected, the filtration system under the brand AiRazor, as well as other related products will be available in Singapore in mid-June of this year. AiRazor also plans to sell its products in Taiwan and other Asian countries.
