Dark chocolate is good for the arteries in the legs

Researchers found elderly people with problems of the arteries in the legs can walk a lot better if you eat dark chocolate.

Peripheral artery disease-dependent cardiovascular diseases often affect the blood vessels in the legs and significantly associated with age. The decrease in blood flow causes pain, cramping or fatigue in the legs or hips while walking.

In a pilot study of patients with these disorders, 14 men and six women aged from 60 to 78 increased their ability to walk unassisted after eating dark chocolate. Participants received 40 grams of dark or milk chocolate. Dairy kind of products showed no changes, while dark tiles improved ability to walk 39 feet farther and 17 seconds longer. The positive effect of scientists associated with the high polyphenol content of this product. As stated by Dr. Francesco Violi: "Foods rich in polyphenols, may represent a new therapeutic strategy to counteract cardiovascular complications."

Despite the positive, albeit modest results, the validation requires a large-scale study. The representative of the American heart Association mark Creager said it's too early to recommend polyphenols or dark chocolate for the health of the cardiovascular system.
