Half an hour of morning sunshine will help you get thinner

Researchers at Northwestern Feinberg University in Chicago have experimentally identified a link between the amount of sunshine a person receives and body mass index (BMI). It turned out that people who get up early, usually slimmer than those who like to soak up longer in bed with closed curtains.
It turns out that sunlight plays a big role in circadian rhythms that help regulate energy balance. The experiment, which involved 54 volunteers, showed that people who were illuminated by the sun in the morning, lost weight without exercise and diet changes. The average age of the subjects was 30 years. To monitor the participants’ sleep cycles and light exposure, special wrist monitors were used, which recorded all changes during the day throughout the experiment. As a result of the experiment, it was found that morning sunlight, regardless of the level of physical activity, the number of calories consumed, sleep duration and age, helped a person lose weight. And the earlier a person felt sunlight throughout the day, the less their BMI became and vice versa – those who came out later had the worst BMI readings in the group. Scientists have found that the share of the effect of morning sunlight on a healthy BMI is at least 20%.
“Light is a powerful reagent that regulates circadian rhythms and synchronizes the internal biological clock with real time. This plays an important role in the formation of energy balance, says study author Phyllis Zae. It is enough to get only 20-30 minutes of sunlight before 9 a.m. for the body mass index to return to normal.
