Does the sign of the cross "bactericidal effect"

Periodically scientists and not only the British are trying to prove something from the realm of faith. Social networks discussed some days old the message that the sign of the cross has "mystical powers", and clears the food crossed. Why is it so attractive to such "evidence"? Reflects Archpriest Maxim Pervozvansky, the graduate of MEPhI, the chief editor of "Heir".

Magic perception of the world is the primary, most simple and crude religious perception.

In conditions when a person does not know, does not feel the living God, not God is trying to communicate, it still lives initially invested religious, sacred, mystical feeling. But without knowledge of the living God, it takes the rough pagan form.

The simplest form of religious – magic, when a person thinks that using certain magical formulas, spells, rituals, actions, he may, if not subordinate, at least to compel the spiritual world to give any effect in its relationship with the material world.

In a situation when Christianity in the world was not such magical actions took the form of approximately: to three times, spit, knock wood, that all was well, sit down on the track and so on. In the result of these actions to invoke the favor of the Universe, Higher powers, gods. And then all will be well: and the water is clean and prosperous path. It lives still.

When we live in a world that is fertilized by Christianity, our Christianity often takes the form of, when the main person is not the person of Jesus Christ, His relationship to us, His saving us, and some rituals, actions. Christianity is perceived as an abstract religion.

This is the obryadoverie, which says a lot. When the main thing is to perform the ceremony is to pass the candle through the right shoulder, the right approach to the icon, wielded properly, it is correct to say a prayer, not making a mistake either in accent or in word. It is clear that err is not necessary. But it's about the fact that a wrong accent or not reading the word leads to the fact that "prayer does not work".

Here is a "work — won't work" is often brought scientific base. I myself, as a young man belonged to the scientific community, have faced this problem. It was the end of the eighties, religious issues, interested in not forbidden, we at the Department of radiation physics working people involved in such matters.

From this point of view, we pray, addressing God in live communication, and caused a surge of some kind of special energy or something else. Or, after reading the prayer, the water acquires the properties, it changes the conductivity or other physico-chemical characteristics. Still it is an attempt to think and believe that religious actions and rituals is a kind of magical effect. But Christianity, of course, this has little or nothing to do.

And the surge of public interest in the scientific substantiation of the Christian rituals occur regularly. Here a few years popular movie "Water" where, among other things, also mentioned, is how to change the water molecules under the action of prayer (not just Christian).

Why would people want to substantiate aspects related to faith? Because a certain effect is in fact still there. Man prays, and, for example, there is a recovery. If the people did not receive any result in their religious life, then it would be the believers was probably much less.

There are of course examples even among the saints who have experienced periods of "mystic desert", when felt no response, when all their prayers the Heavens were silent. It happens, and people can still remain a Christian.

But still, one way or another, mass religious consciousness is being raised and fueled by the stories of miracles, healings, insight — just as the work of God, not mystical forces. And that's fine.

Therefore, any responsible scientist will say: "Yes, the effect is". How to explain this scientific positivist mind? The only way that there is some effect, some energy, and so forth, which appears when the correct reading of prayers, which are correct in some way shake the space-time continuum, which allegedly changes human-friendly way.
