Autonomous catamaran went to explore the Celtic sea
Have you ever wondered why the Celtic sea that washes the South coast of Ireland, is home to a huge number of marine predators? No? But scientists from the British national Oceanography centre this mystery right does not rest. That is why they decided to send Autonomous catamaran C-Enduro in search of the answer to the question tormenting them for decades.
"The Celtic sea contains place a huge accumulation of marine mammals," says project leader Professor Russell Wynn, We need more information to understand what these sea areas so attractive to inhabitants. Modern technology allows us to implement a permanent presence in these areas and the continuous collection of valuable research data."Catamaran C-Enduro was developed in-house ASV Unmanned Marine Systems. Weighs it is a standalone ship 350 pounds, but in motion it causes the engine, which can operate from one of three sources of energy: wind, solar and diesel fuel. In the afternoon the catamaran will charge from sunlight, and at night it can set in motion a wind turbine mounted to the top. If there is no wind or sunlight, the C-Enduro can switch to regular diesel until, until he will be available another source of energy.
The catamaran is equipped with several GoPro cameras and acoustic equipment to observe underwater animals, as well as meteorological station. The developers claim that the ship may sail to sea for three months, while its maximum speed is 13 miles per hour. If the catamaran is suddenly turned upside down during a storm, a special unit corps will immediately return it to its normal position.
Despite maximum autonomy C-Enduro, scientists will still watch him with the help of satellite tracking system. Also includes the issue of security in that case, if the path of the catamaran there is another swimming tool. C-Enduro will automatically avoid collision and change the course of its movement. published
P. S. And remember, only by changing their consumption — together we change the world! ©
