In our view the Park is a leisurely walk on a warm evening, cheerful children's laughter and birds singing in the morning. But in the Middle ages people valued the solitude and moments of reflection. The Park of the Sacro Bosco, created Duke pier Francesco Orsini. It is located in Italy, in the city of Bomarzo. This place is known as the "Garden of Monsters".

The wife of the Duke died before the completion of their castle, in 1546. Orsini decided in honor of the deceased to create a Park in which he put his heart and soul. Pier Francesco called the Park a "wonderful garden", but with Italian language the name is translated as "Sacred forest".

Beautiful and terrifying "tenants"



The Sacro Bosco is filled with various mythical creatures carved from rock. Among the many statues you can see the "stone" clash of the Titans, the head of Proteus, as well as many animals found in mythology. Then the son of the God of the seas and oceans, Netpune, the elephant, who eats people. You can also come across a dog attacking a dragon. All the sculptures are fraught with hidden tragic story of lovers — the Duke and his late wife.

Incredible works of art.

The most famous exhibit is considered to be a grotto made in the form of the head of the Queen of Hell, Orko. In it, tourists often hide from the scorching sun. It should be noted that this grotto has an interesting property: it is said it is impossible to keep secret – the echo carries the words across the Sacro Bosco.



And the most original structure, no doubt, can be considered "leaning house". Once inside, they all, without exception, begin to feel not only dizzy but nauseous. Those who don't care about the unwell, get to the second floor. And here you can enjoy the beautiful views of the entire Park.



The death of his wife gave birth to the Park. In the beginning the construction was planned as a wedding gift, but on the implementation of the plan took more than three decades. To realize his dream into reality, the Duke was invited by P. Ligorio, a famous architect of the XVI century. Initially, the existence of mythical creatures was not planned, only the wonderful avenues and beautiful fountains. But the death of the wife gave rise to life mythical creatures.



After the death of the Duke, his legal heirs were not able to appropriately care for Sacro Bosco. As a result, nature took things into their own hands: the Park is overgrown and has acquired the supernatural is sinister. This was the beginning of the new name – "the Garden of Monsters".published
