UN: losses of natural catastrophes for 20 years, has reached $6 trillion Bashny.Net

Over 606 thousand people have died in 20 years due to disasters caused by climate change, in which States have lost a total of up to six trillion dollars, says the report, prepared by the UN office for disaster risk reduction (BSRB).

"The weather conditions and climate are the main causes of dangers during disasters, and this report shows that the world is paying the price the high price of human lives. Economic losses are the major challenges for development in many less developed countries trying to fight climate change and poverty. In the long run, the agreement in Paris at COP-21 on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions will have a significant contribution to the reduction of damage and losses due to disasters which are partly caused by global warming and increasing sea levels", — said in presenting the report, the UN special representative for disaster risk reduction Margareta wahlström (Margareta Wahlstroem).





According BRSB UN, more than 90% of all major disasters that have occurred over the last 20 years were caused by weather and natural disasters. Since 1995 due to disasters caused by climate change, killing 606 thousand people, and about 4.1 billion people were injured, were in distress or were forced to leave their homes. Most from natural disasters suffer the USA, where there were 472 such cases, China (441), India (288), the Philippines (274), Indonesia (163).

Financial losses of the States due to natural disasters are also significant, but in most cases, real numbers are ignored. So, 1,891 trillion dollars that the country lost due to disasters in 20 years, actually represent only 35% of the probable total amount. According to estimates BRSB UN real losses due to natural disasters, including tsunamis and earthquakes, this time can be up to 6 trillion dollars.published
