Scientists argue about the UN report on climate

Two leading scientists-a climatologist from around the world have different views on the report on the effects of global warming and rising water levels. Lead author of the intergovernmental panel on climate change, the UN has challenged the view of the economist who wrote the key Chapter.

Professor of environmental studies Stanford University Chris field (Chris Field) made some remarks about Professor Richard Toll (Richard Tol) from the British University of Sussex, which became the leading author of the Chapter of the report on the economic impacts of climate change.

Professor Toll said last week that he was asked to remove his name from the summary report of the intergovernmental panel on climate change, which is read most often because it seemed too "alarmist" and contains a number of "silly" statements about the vulnerability of people in war zones from climate change.

However, Professor field is co-chair of the Council working group on climate change of the UN, which prepared the report, said that Professor Roofing is main part of the scientific community. In his opinion, the economist was disappointed that his studies were not well represented in the summary report.

"When the intergovernmental Council on climate change United Nations is preparing a report, we get acquainted with the position of the scientific community. Richard Only a remarkable scientist, but he is not in the center of scientific thought, but somewhere on the sidelines," said Professor field, before the release of the report.

"We have other authors that are on the side of the other side, and I can assure you that each of my 309 of the authors of the report believes that his research is cited often enough, or not well represented in the overall findings of the report".

Both scientists participated in discussions at the weekend in the Japanese city of Yokohama, which was finalized and approved summary with key findings, consisting of 30 chapters. This report is the most authoritative study on the effects of climate change since the publication in 2007 of the previous major report of the intergovernmental panel on climate change.

In the preliminary project summary, compiled last week, based on data from the head of the Roofing Professor stated that if global temperatures rise by 2.5 degrees Celsius, it can lead to a loss of 0.2-2 per cent of global gross domestic product. Some economists believe that the warming will have much more serious consequences, and this uncertainty is reflected in the final summary.
