Breathtaking photos of the world's first underwater greenhouses

At a depth of six meters in a special balloon-like biospheres are growing crops such as strawberries, lettuce and Basil — and at an incredibly rapid pace.

When Sergio Gamberini went to Italy for the summer, he lit up the "crazy" idea to grow crops in the sea under water. Making a few phone calls, he immediately began to conduct experiments, lowering to the seabed is filled with transparent air of the biosphere.

What started as a randomly inspired idea into a group of the world's first underwater greenhouses placed on the anchor at a depth of 6 meters under water off the coast of Noli in Italy.

A pilot project called " the Garden of Nemo, which is already in its fourth year, is part of the family business Ocean Reef Group, which Gamberini is President.

Underwater greenhouse is a spherical biosphere, which is kept at a constant temperature of 26 ° C and humidity of 83 percent. As the Washington Post reported, the design of each of the biosphere allows the water to evaporate, nourishing the plants.

In addition, carbon dioxide in high concentrations it acts like a steroid for plants, contributing to their very rapid growth.

The company Gamberini involved in providing services of diving, controls the economy of the five biospheres. Currently, they are successfully grown under water, Basil, lettuce, strawberries and beans.

In the future Ocean Reef Group is planning to build more biospheres for other cultures. In particular, they're going to grow mushrooms, which grow well in a wet environment.

An additional advantage of underwater areas is their safety for the environment. published
