South Korean Posco has built in Poland, thermal power plants which burn waste

Posco Engineering and Construction (Posco E&C), a unit of South Korean group Posco has completed the construction of new thermal power plants running on waste in Krakow, Poland, for $ 250 million.

After completion of construction and commissioning works during the last seven months, the site was transferred to the owner — a local power company Krakowski Holding Komunalny.





Posco E&C was the main contractor in the construction of new thermal power plants, which are said to be the largest of the working on waste in the country.

New thermal power plant in Krakow has an installed electric capacity of 11 MW and a thermal — 35 MW. A year in the boilers of the new CHP will amount to 220,000 tons of household waste.

In addition, ash from the incineration of waste will also be used as a material for road construction.

First Deputy mayor of Krakow Tadeusz Tamiel said, "I was deeply impressed by the technologies of Posco E&C and their ability to exercise such strict control of power plant construction. I am grateful for the new facility, which will be responsible for the protection of the environment."

It is expected that the new power plant the amount of waste to landfill in Krakow will be reduced by 90% while generating electricity and heat.





CEO of Posco E&C Han Chan kun said: "the Successful construction of a power plant in Krakow, working on industrial and domestic waste, is expected to become a solid Foundation for Posco E&C to enter into the energy market in Poland and Eastern Europe."

Posco E&C was selected as the winner of the tender, which also included applications from such companies as French CNIM Constr Indust de la Mediterranee, Keppel Seghers, a Belgian and Japan's Hitachi.
