Volvo starts production of cars with autopilot highways by 2021

Volvo has continued research in the field of self-service. As reported by Bloomberg, in 2021 the Swedish company intends to introduce a commercial system that will allow vehicles to move completely independently on highways.

Starting next year, Volvo will start large-scale testing of vehicles with autonomous control systems in three regions at once. In particular, the test will be held in Gothenburg, in southwestern Sweden. In addition, tests will be held in the UK and China - and there, and there are plans to use about 100 cars in the experiment

.

Volvo intends to analyze the data obtained from the daily self-administered machines. All the information will be used for further development of autonomous control technologies - they are adapted for driving in normal conditions. This is one of the key differentiators of the project from the testing of such vehicles on less realistic test ranges.

The introduction of autonomous control technology promises revolutionary changes in the field of traffic on four main aspects: improving safety, reducing traffic congestion, reduce emissions and save time

.

Thus, according to an independent study, autopilots can significantly reduce the number of road accidents. Up to 90% of all accidents occur because of errors of drivers themselves - this factor will be eliminated in a self-managed machines

. In terms of utilization of the machine with the autopilot roads will contribute to a more uniform flow, reducing congestion, and thus reducing the volume of harmful emissions and the associated pollution. Finally, the unloading of road will allow drivers to save time.
