Hybrid Mercedes S550e get support for wireless charging

Mercedes-Benz, reported online sources may be one of the first car manufacturers who offer wireless recharging system for production of hybrid and electric vehicles.




Such a system could make his debut as an option for the luxury-sedan S550e Plug In Hybrid. In its current form, this vehicle is equipped with a 3-liter V6 engine with two turbochargers and an electric motor. In sum, the power plant can produce 436 horsepower. The electric motor is powered by a rechargeable battery pack capacity of 8, 7 kWh.



Mercedes-Benz wireless battery charging system will use the induction method. The principle of operation is as follows. In the garage or parking space is an induction coil, which creates an electromagnetic field at the AC entry. At the bottom of the car is built similar to the coil, catching the generated field and converts the received energy into direct current, which is used to recharge the batteries.



It is alleged that the efficiency of the Mercedes-Benz system exceeds 90%. Power will be 3, 6 kW: it is enough to recharge the batteries of most modern hybrid car for three hours
