"Cedar Tower" in Lausanne, Switzerland - the first step towards ecological revolution in architecture

Every year, all over the world shall be commissioned hundreds of residential high-rise buildings. Basically it is gray, unremarkable concrete "box" without any highlights.





Italian architect decided to go a different route and developed a project of a building with real pine trees on the balconies. Green areas will protect the apartment from the noise, wind and street dust.





Renowned architect Stefano Boeri ( Stefano Boeri ) presented another ambitious project of a multi-storey residential building, covered with evergreen trees and shrubs La Tour des Cedres («Cedar Tower"). The house is located in Lausanne ( Switzerland ).





The height of a 36-storey condominium will be 117 meters. A "highlight" of the facade will be more than 100 seedlings of cedar trees, 6,000 shrubs and 18,000 other greenery. Cedar was chosen because of its durability and ability to withstand temperature changes.





Plants protect the apartment from the harsh winds, street noise and dust. In addition, the residents of this building will be much more pleasant to look out of the windows.





Inside the flats are located a three- or six-room apartments, a gym, a number of office premises.





And on the top floor, equipped with a restaurant stunning panoramic views of the city. Construction should begin in 2017.





The tendency to plant trees right on the roofs of houses is gaining popularity.





Thus, experts want to reduce the concentration of harmful vapors city. So a group of Vietnamese architects studio Vo Trong Nghia Architects has developed and implemented the project apartment complex consisting of five monolithic houses with planted trees on their roofs. B>
