10-12% of Dalmatians are deaf

Deafness is characteristic of the breed Dalmatians. Not only is that a significant proportion of puppies are born deaf, but also among those who can hear, many (about 22%) have a "one-sided hearing." This means that they can only hear one ear of a dog which is difficult in determining where the sound sounds.

Many breeders destroy the deaf Dalmatians puppies, considering that in this way you can "clean" the rock from a genetic defect. However, fans of Dalmatians are extremely disapprove of this practice. Although deaf dogs are trained harder, they still can be trained. They can even learn sign language.
