Service dogs are mistaken in finding the drug in more than 50% of cases
Especially coached at finding narcotics dogs must send a signal if uchuyut smell drugs in the car, in the room or in the pocket of a person - the dog should start digging, or just sit down. But according to an analysis of data made the records suburban investigative departments in the US, only 44% of dogs showed the drugs directly, more often they are wrong. The officers, trainers and instructors, however, argue that the measure thus benefit from the work of service dogs properly.
Instructors explained that in some cases the odor of drugs may have to stay in the machine after they have been sold or used, and canine noses so sensitive that they can catch the residual odor. However, even supporters of the use of sniffer dogs to search for drugs tend to agree with the statistics that service dogs are often poorly trained and could apply the wrong signals, resulting in the end to unjustified searches.
