Svaneti Towers Bashny.Net

The unique terrain of modern Georgia, called Svaneti, known worldwide for its towers. They are scattered throughout the region, and their age is not measured by one century. The "youngest" of them are already seven centuries.





As for the oldest, their age to determine problematic. These towers were built for entirely different reasons: protection against an external enemy, a demonstration of the greatness of the genus, signal towers, store food stocks and much more. Despite the resemblance, almost each tower has its own characteristics of the structure, and even the color, due to the use of different building materials. Svaneti is often called the land of a thousand towers.
