Putin unilaterally suspended diplomatic relations with the United States

Russian President Vladimir Putin has suspended diplomatic relations with the United States.

According to The Daily Beast, since the invasion of the Crimea between Putin and US President Barack Obama took place regular phone calls in order to de-escalate the situation in Ukraine.

However, given the fact that the US and the EU are preparing new sanctions against Russia, Putin decided that the interaction has to stop, the newspaper writes, citing diplomats and sources close to the Russian leadership.

"Putin will not talk with Obama", - said Igor Jurgens, head of the Institute of Contemporary Development, a close ally of Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, noting that diplomatic relations severed not forever.

Diplomatic sources, the publication noted that Putin is not interested in a conversation with Obama in the current environment. The two leaders could negotiate again in the future, but none of the parties does not seek direct contact, as it did at the beginning of the crisis in Ukraine.

The failure of the "Geneva Accords" reinforced friction between Washington and Moscow, says The Daily Beast.

However, the State Department spokesman Jen Psak said the United States does not suspend cooperation with Russia and were not informed the Russian side that it happened.

Earlier it was reported that the phone contacts the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry, who were scheduled for April 23 and 24, did not take place.
