American photographer, who was dead for six years, left behind a huge legacy of work. But Leonard originally wanted to become an artist. But at the age of 24 years, after a trip to Europe, everything changed.
Leonard Freed (Leonard Freed) was born into a Jewish family of immigrants from Belarus, who, at the time of birth of the baby (10.23.1929), lived in New York. Remembering his childhood Brooklyn, the photographer said that much of his free time in the museums, but no one to share - all interested in music and sports. Travel to Europe and North Africa finally persuaded Leonard to do photography. And on his return home, he graduated from the courses of the famous photographer and designer Alexey Brodovitch. And then, the young man decided to become a photojournalist. And his work is "Black in White America" immediately made him famous. Through this project, Leonard earned him the nickname «Concerned Photographer», his craving for display unfairness of life.
