Cannabis and legislation

In almost all countries, there is a legal distinction between marijuana and cannabis. The whole secret is in the content of the psychoactive component - THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). If the plant contains more than 0.3% - marijuana, if less - hemp. Of course, breeding is carried out in both directions.

Another interesting property of cannabis is that there are absolutely no cannabinoids in its fruits. In any country of the world, except for totalitarian Belarus, you can officially buy marijuana seeds. In most countries, it is believed that the buyer knows a priori about the prohibition of marijuana cultivation, and buys seeds for culinary or collectible purposes. However, other legislative options are also known in world practice.

In Switzerland, Georgia or South Africa, hemp is banned from circulation, but the state strictly follows the sacred rule: “My home is my fortress”, so the legislation allows the cultivation of several marijuana plants for personal purposes. It is this inclusion in the criminal-administrative codes that ultimately leads to the legalization of marijuana. At least that was demonstrated by Canada and Uruguay.

There are countries where cannabis is strictly prohibited, but the cultivation of marijuana for personal use is certified. To obtain a license, you need to have a certificate from a doctor that medical marijuana is required to treat the disease. This legislation has been in effect in the Philippines since 2008.
Hemp has a unique status in regions where it has been traditionally consumed for centuries, such as Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Morocco or Tunisia. Officially, it is banned there, but at the same time, every house has a package of cannabis inflorescences. Without it, Central Asian and African reality will be inferior.

Prospects of cannabis in the legislation of Ukraine
Hemp farming for Ukraine has been a natural branch of agriculture for several centuries. Even the only cannabis institute in the world has been researching bass crops for 90 years. There are young entrepreneurs in Ukraine who can start a highly profitable business on growing agricultural hemp. It is only a matter of small – to remove barriers at the legislative level.

Before the war, the government of Ukraine several times planned to legalize medical marijuana, and at the same time to ease the licensing burden for agricultural enterprises growing technical hemp. President Zelensky himself and several factions of the Verkhovna Rada are lobbying hard for this direction. From behind the scenes comes unofficial information that these issues will be solved one of the first, after the end of hostilities.
