Canadian founded the brand Saint Javelin and has collected more than $ 2 million in support of Ukraine
In one of the districts of Kiev on the building appeared New mural "Saint Javelina". The drawing is part of a series of street arts for the project “Mural Alley”. The symbolic image of the Madonna with a weapon in his hands at the stage of creation caused different emotions in people. Young people admired the fresh reading of old motifs. But hardened conservatives saw in the art object an attempt to discredit the face of the Virgin.
Instagram / @kunstveggen.no Whose side is the truth and what is special about the mural "Saint Javelina", editorial office "Site" It is described further in the article.
On one of the buildings of the Solomensky district in Kiev, an unusual mural appeared. It depicts the Virgin, who holds a portable anti-tank missile system Javelin. With its help, Ukrainian troops successfully destroy enemy military equipment. Above the head of the Madonna there is a blue halo with the image of the Ukrainian coat of arms of yellow color.
The Kiev mural is just one of the manifestations of the activities of Canadian Christian Boris. On February 16, 2022, he created the Saint Javelin brand. The man was concerned about the escalation on the Ukrainian-Russian border and understood that a humanitarian crisis was just around the corner.
Therefore, Christian decided to start raising funds to support Ukrainians. The Canadian has many relatives and friends in Ukraine. He has long worked as a journalist in Kiev for the BBC, VICE News, CBC and other media services. Initially, the man planned to raise at least $ 500, but now the amount of the fee exceeded 2 million.
The goal of the Canadian is to do everything possible to rebuild the destroyed cities and villages of Ukraine. The brand has donated to Help Us Help, 2402. The company also began to cooperate with the Ukrainian World Congress to purchase protective equipment for the military.
To support the project of Christian Boris, you can purchase something on the website of Saint Javelin. For example, the original T-shirt, stickers or Ukrainian flag with the image of St. Javelina. I shared the link above.
Creation of mural in Kiev Kiev Mural created by artists from the creative group Kailas-V. Its participants have been painting art on buildings in Ukraine for 12 years. Each drawing is based on historical and patriotic motives. The creators plan to create the same murals in the east of the country.
Instagram / @bbc_ua “Saint Javelina”, depicted on the wall of the Kiev building, was not liked by all residents of the city. To some, this interpretation of the Mother of God seemed inappropriate, because the Virgin cannot hold a weapon in her hands. And the creators of art dissatisfied Ukrainians called atheists.
However, the artists do not care at all. According to them, the picture has nothing to do with the face of the saint. It is simply an art object that symbolizes the struggle of the Ukrainian people against the Russian invaders. The creative group Kailas-V did not want to offend the feelings of believers.
Nevertheless, the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations strongly opposed the new mural: “We, the believers of Ukraine, express a categorical rejection and protest to such expressions of public pseudo-art that use religious feelings and symbols as an object of parody.”
It is difficult to say whether this protest will affect the fate of the mural. After all, ordinary residents of Kiev like the drawing. Isn’t that the essence of art? Especially now that there is a full-scale war in Ukraine, any creative manifestations should be welcomed.
Instagram / @darthtepes I recently talked about the role military art plays in people's lives. I think people should take it easy. Agree, mural is not an icon. And it wasn't painted in church. This is just one example of how people feel about war.
I wonder what you think about that? Do you like such folk art?
