Famous British band Pet Shop Boys refused concerts in Russia, making a loud statement

Members of the British pop group Pet Shop Boys supported Ukraine and refused to tour in Russia. “We look forward to the day when the political regime in Russia will change,” they wrote on their Facebook page.

Members of the synth-pop group recalled that in 2009 their world tour Pandemonium began in St. Petersburg. They said they had visited Russia many times. But today they strongly condemn the policy of the current Russian government.

Facebook: It’s inconceivable right now that we can go there or speak. But we look forward to the day when criminal politicians are brought to justice, the truth is told, neighboring countries are not invaded or threatened, and a new Russia is born. Hopefully we'll still be there to see it, Pet Shop Boys said.

It should be noted that Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe are not the first time to declare support for the Ukrainian people. On March 2, the musicians posted on their page a photo of Borodyanka destroyed by Russian shelling. This post is accompanied by an eloquent caption: “It’s very difficult to think about anything else right now.”

Pet Shop Boys have previously spoken out about events related to Russia. So in December 2021, the musicians spoke in support of the human rights organization “International Memorial”, liquidated by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

As we have already written, the tour in the aggressor country was canceled by other well-known performers. In the near future, Green Day, Placebo, BrainStorm will not come to Russia. Maneskin expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people. Therefore, the band excluded Russia from the poster of their tour. And while there is a war in Ukraine, there will be no concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The list of Russian artists opposing the war in Ukraine is not as impressive as it could be. However, it does exist, and it is already pleasing. Despite the oppression of the government and the constant risk of being behind bars, musicians and actors from Russia try to convey the truth to their fans. Many abroad organize charity concerts, the proceeds of which are sent to help Ukrainian refugees.
