Some diagnoses cause fear and horror in women, although in fact they pose no threat, and some do not exist at all. Editorial "Site" He will tell you about the most common false diagnoses of gynecologists.

Gynecological diseases
  1. Cervical erosion
A diagnosis that exists only in the post-Soviet space. Doctors around the world have come to the conclusion that changes in the cervix may be the norm due to special physiological conditions. Erosion can only be a symptom of other diseases, but not a diagnosis in itself. Together with this sore, doctors love to diagnose HPV (human papillomavirus). Then the woman is prescribed expensive therapy, which will not give any results, because HPV is not treated.

  2. Chronic inflammation of the ovaries
This is a diagnosis that I suffered from myself. Sounds scary, doesn't it? That's what I thought. I trusted the doctor, bought that endless list of drugs and took a course of painful antibiotics. That's only after it turned out that there is no inflammation of the ovaries and that such a diagnosis is not made after one ultrasound. I mean, you should not believe this diagnosis without doing all the necessary tests. Very often, doctors put it when patients complain of pain in the lower abdomen. But this is not enough to diagnose inflammation. And it can not be an independent disease, more often it is a sign of some other disease, a symptom. And it needs to be treated in combination with the root cause.

  3. ureaplasmosis
Another mythical creature born in the world of gynecology. Bacteria Ureaplasma parvum and Ureaplasma urealyticum are normally harmless and can not affect the menstrual cycle, and even more so on fertility and pregnancy. Ureaplasmas can participate in inflammatory processes, but more often they affect the urethra and bladder, causing urethritis, cystitis and other “joys of life”. Ureaplasmosis does not exist as a separate disease: the detection in a smear of ureaplasma does not yet indicate the presence of any disease. This is part of the normal microflora, and especially persistent doctors, without conducting additional tests, are trying to evict ureaplasma from the body. But why?

  4. Mycoplasmosis
The fact is that this is too generalized diagnosis, it can not exist. After all, there are two types of mycoplasma that are related to the reproductive system: Mycoplasma genitalium and Mycoplasma hominis. The first is a sexually transmitted infection. It causes non-specific symptoms (pain during sexual intercourse, unusual discharge, etc.) and requires treatment. To detect this type of mycoplasma is possible only after studying the smear by PCR. Other methods will not show its presence, so you should not rely on them. And a doctor who says without tests that you have mycoplasmosis should not believe either.

The second mycoplasma is a completely ordinary inhabitant of microflora. In a healthy woman with normal immunity, it does not cause any inflammatory processes. Very rarely, the bacterium leads to inflammatory diseases, and most often this happens against the background of weakening of immunity or serious diseases.

But the detection of this type of mycoplasma in the smear does not indicate the presence of diseases. If there are no unpleasant symptoms, further examination, and even more so, treatment is not required.

  5. Gardnerelles
Gardnerella vaginalis is a bacterium that lives peacefully in the body and is found in a smear in half of the world’s women. Another disease spoiled the reputation of this peaceful bacterium - vaginosis. This imbalance in the microflora of the vagina: the number of lactobacilli decreases, and the number of other bacteria increases. The causes of this disease have not yet been studied, but Gardnerella certainly is not to blame for the development of this disease. So the correct diagnosis is more bacterial vaginosis, but treatment should be directed not only to gardnerella, but to a whole range of other bacteria. This diagnosis should not be believed.
