Because today's editorial office. "Site" tells The Life of Seraphim of Sarov And remembers his teachings.

Saint Seraphim of Sarov was born on July 19, 1759 in the city of Kursk. When he was baptized, he was called Prokhor. When he was three years old, the boy’s father died, shortly before the tragedy, taking a row to build the church of St. Sergius. Prokhor's mother took care of all the work to continue.

Often the boy went with his mother to the construction site. One day during the inspection he stumbled and fell from a high bell tower. Going down, the mother saw that her son was healthy and unharmed, in which she saw a divine sign. It was clear that this boy had a special mission.

Prokhor’s older brother was engaged in trade and eventually began to accustom the boy to it. However, his soul was always striving for God: every day he visited the temple, woke up early in the morning to go and listen to the morning. At an early age he learned to read, then his favorite occupation was reading the Holy Scriptures and the Life of the Saints.

At the age of 17, the young man decided that he would leave the worldly life. Then he asked for his mother’s blessing and devoted himself to the monastic life. At first he went to the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, where he met the reclusive Dositheus. It was the recluse who examined the faithful servant of Christ in Prokhor and said that the place of the youth was in the Sarov desert.

Thanks to this advice, in 1778 Prokhor was in Sarov. There he was received by Elder Pachomius, who at that time was the abbot in the monastery. The saint prayed a lot, and read spiritual books attentively in his cell. His lifestyle was harsh, but his soul demanded more.

Then, having received the blessing of the elders, the chosen one of God began to go to the forest for prayers. The brothers were amazed at the strength of spirit and holy exploits of Prokhor. The saint was often ill, but always refused treatment, preferring to trust in the will of God. When the condition of the saint became critical, the Mother of God appeared to him and healed him. Over time, a temple was built on the site of this miracle.

In 1786, when Prokhor was 28 years old, he was tonsured as a monk and took the name Seraphim. In 1787, Seraphim was consecrated to the rank of hierodeacon. After that, he was in service for 6 years without interruption. He slept little, hardly rested, forgot to eat, but God always gave him special powers.

In 1793 the saint took the rank of hieromonk, and after the departure of Elder Pachomius Seraphim with the blessing of Elder Isaiah left the monastery. He went to live in the forest, in a secluded cell on the river bank. Little by little he arranged life: he made a garden next to the cell, bred bees. He spent the rest of his time in prayer and reading holy books.

The life of the saint was not easy, and various trials awaited him on the way. One day Seraphim was attacked by robbers, demanding money that he allegedly received from the laity. Of course, the elder had no money, which angered the robbers. They attacked Seraphim and beat him severely.

When he regained consciousness, he immediately thanked God for his suffering and prayed for the forgiveness of the attackers. In the morning, he barely reached the monastery, where he was examined by doctors. He miraculously survived because the injuries were very serious. He lay exhausted for a long time, refusing even food.

At that time Seraphim had a vision. The Virgin Mary and the apostles Peter and John came to him and said to the doctors, “What are you doing?” and to the monk himself, “This is of my generation!” Then Seraphim refused the doctors and gave his life into the hands of the Lord. After nine days, he regained strength and was able to get out of bed.

However, he returned to his cell only 5 months later. Over time, people learned about the reverend and began to come for help. He received many, gave them advice, shared wisdom and guidance. The saint helped many, even then a sincere love for Seraphim and his teachings was born in the hearts of people.

Not only people knew about the hermit, but also wild animals. Many people have seen Seraphim feeding a large bear. The hermit radiated love and faith, and even nature responded in kind.

For three years the saint took a vow of silence. For a thousand days and nights he stood on a rock and prayed to God. He endured winter cold, summer heat, and rain. He came down from a rock just to eat.

After this feat, the saint was greatly weakened. He could not come to the monastery on his own, so in 1810, after 16 years of living in the forest, he left the desert and returned to the monastery. There he began a new feat of seclusion: at first he did not go anywhere and did not talk to anyone. No one saw him even taking food.

In his cell there was only an icon of the Mother of God, a lamp in front of her and a stump stump instead of a chair. There was an oak coffin near which the elder prayed, preparing for the transition to eternal life. Only 10 years later did Seraphim speak again to serve the world. He opened his cell and people began to come to him. He taught them, taught them, and taught them wisdom.

A year and ten months before the end of earthly life, the Mother of God appeared again to Seraphim. This was an omen of the near departure of the saint and his imperishable glory. In 1833, the monk’s cellman felt the smell of burning coming from the cell of St. Seraphim. He always had candles burning, he said, “As long as I live, there will be no fire, and when I die, my death will be opened by fire.”

That's what happened. When they opened the door, they saw a dead body. Saint Seraphim of SarovThere's stuff and books all around. He was laid in a prepared coffin and buried near the cathedral altar. Soon Seraphim was listed as a saint. For many years people came to this place and prayed to the reverend.

The saint believed that the most terrible sin of man is despondency. He urged people to get rid of the spirit of despair and enjoy life. So now people go to Seraphim in difficult moments of life. The saint always helps and comforts if the prayer really needs help.

The saint said: “One must remove discouragement from oneself and try to have a joyful spirit, not a sad one.” We all need to heed this advice and start appreciating and enjoying life!

The lives of saints are one of the best sources of wisdom. A clear example of this is the life of Sergius of Radonezh, who is remembered and loved by Orthodox believers to this day.
