Anthony Sourozhsky’s fate is so unique that in Orthodox history you can’t find a similar one. Andrei Borisovich Bloom (the worldly name of the metropolitan) was born in Switzerland in 1914. As a child, he had to endure many hardships due to the fact that the family was forced to emigrate to Europe. The last point of their journey was France.

At the age of 14, young Andrew first read the Gospel. He began to visit the temple more often, turning to Christ and thinking about God. Andrey happily shared his thoughts with others, unable to remain silent about what was revealed to him.

The future bishop, having graduated from the medical faculty of the Sorbonne, began to work as a surgeon in the French army. In 1943 he received monastic tonsure. Antony was ordained a priest and sent to serve in England as a spiritual leader.

The metropolitan’s sermons penetrated deeply into the souls and hearts of people. They say that after confession to him, people came out as if from a bath - steamed and cleansed of sin.

During his 89 years of life, the metropolitan wrote many books and articles. In them he reflected on the basics of spiritual life, prayers and spirituality in general. During the life of the Metropolitan, his book “Prayer and Life” was published, in which he talks about whether modern man can pray and how to do it. The work is relevant to this day.

However, despite all this, he retained humility and asceticism in his soul, became a real example of a righteous life. He proved that it is possible to remain a true Christian even in the cruel modern world.

Perhaps they will be the reason for the subsequent appeal to the sermons and conversations of the Lord.
