In Russian, you can sometimes find quite similar in sound, but different in meaning words. There is no need to be alarmed, for now we will discuss some of them together and we will no longer guess what their practical difference is.

  1. Adviser/Counselor
    It's simple. An advisor is a person who gives advice. Sometimes completely unnecessary. But the adviser is already a rank, a position.
  2. Suddenly / Hasteningly
    "Swiftly" means "suddenly when no one expected." Yes, often in books this word stands before the word "died." “Swiftly” means “hurriedly”, “without thinking”.



  3. Ethical/Ethical
    There is such a science of ethics. The word “ethical” can be applied to it. Ethical may or may not be an act, a joke. For example, at a wedding or a birthday party.



  4. Gourman/Gurme
    Gurman loves to eat, and his attitude to food is exhausted.



    But gourmet is already a culinary expert.





  5. Symbolic/Symbolic
    If you say that the dove is a symbol of peace, it will refer to symbolism.



    But if a colleague at work at a party drinks only a glass, it will be purely conditional, that is, symbolic.





  6. Ignorant / Ignorant

  12. Frustration/Prostration
    Terrible and incomprehensible words. Still different from each other. Frustration is a feeling of anxiety, dissatisfaction, arising from the inability to achieve the desired. Prostration is a depressed state, a complete decline of strength. The concepts are complex, but do not confuse them.






Words with different meaningsThey are often found, for example, in books. Sometimes the author gives a footnote, explaining to readers the meaning of a particular concept. It’s always better to know what I’m talking about, in advance.

Words that sound similar but have lexicalityThey often come up at social gatherings. You're not going to be on your phone every time you look for the right answers to make you look competent. The only way out is to read this article and remember everything that is written in it!
