The Right Way to Plant Tomatoes That My Countrymate Taught Me

Planting tomatoes in open ground has its own subtleties, which must be taken into account so that the harvest justified all the efforts spent. Today we will remember the general rules for the preparation of seedlings and talk about a method that will allow you to plant overgrown seedlings, strengthen the roots and stem, as well as get more abundant fruiting.

The best time to transplant tomato seedlings into the ground is the end of May and early June, when the daytime temperature reaches 22-25 degrees, and at night does not fall below 15.

The area under the seedlings should be well lit. It is undesirable to plant tomatoes where potatoes, peppers and eggplant grew last year. These plants have common diseases and pests with tomatoes.

To simplify the process, seedlings stop watering in a couple of days. And 2 hours before transplantation, abundantly watered with water to earthen lump became wet. After that, it will not decay and the roots of the plant will not suffer.

To plant seedlings, you need to make holes slightly larger than the earth coma of the plant. In the holes apply humus, wood ash and fertilizers. Then set the seedling vertically and sprinkled with earth.

The above-described order is suitable for planting seedlings of standard size up to 30 centimeters high with 8-10 leaves. For a long overgrown seedling, the algorithm will be slightly different.

Dig out small trenches on the bed, cut the lower leaves at the seedlings (so as not to rot), lay the seedlings in the trenches horizontally to the south, with the top to the north. Fill with soil so that part of the stem with cropped leaves is in the ground, and the top is free.

At first, the tomatoes lie on the ground, but then they rise. The stem will become shorter and stronger, and plant nutrition will improve due to the formation of additional roots on the buried part, which will eventually give an increase in yield.
