The appearance of this beautiful hymn is attributed to the Mother of God. Saint Nectarius of Aegina. He was a great man with a great heart and a strong faith. In his youth, he was so poor that he barely had enough to eat. Anastasius (name given to Nectarius from birth) sincerely prayed - and the higher forces sent him on the way people who helped him to learn and become a priest.

Nectarius was slandered and he was dismissed. For about a year he lived almost without means of subsistence, he was not employed anywhere.

He seemed to hear a slender singing. Guessing what was going on, he looked up and saw Holy Mother of God. Accompanied by a host of angels singing in a special song: “Pure Virgin of the Lord, Most Holy Mother of God, Rejoice, Bride of the Bride ...”

The Most Holy Mother of God commanded the saint to write down this song so that people would sing it together with the angels. So this prayer has become a well-known hymn to the Mother of God! Then fate began to smile at Nectarius, and he again became a priest.



Nectarius spent the last 12 years of his life in a convent founded by him on the island of Aegina.
