Retro photos of real geisha

Think of geisha as prostitutes or girls of easy virtue, but it is very far from the truth. Moreover, for a girl to become a geisha was considered a great honor. They were artists, and they were taught the art of communication, music, dance, and play the shamisen (three-stringed plucked musical instrument).

Since the Japanese dancers were very welcome, the prostitutes called themselves geisha to attract more customers, but to notice the difference between them is simple: geisha tying Obi (belt) in the back, and confused front to quickly remove and wear it during the day.

But most importantly — moths often serviced American military, geisha were not engaged in paid sex with clients. The dancers spent time in the so-called tea houses, where they sang, danced, played music and interacted with the guests.
