Solar water heater from plastic bottles
Imagine a solar collector made of plastic bottles. It can help disadvantaged communities to find a reliable source of energy and simultaneously the system recycling.
This project was implemented in the Garin – in the town, 40 kilometers North of the capital of Argentina is Buenos Aires. There is a group of volunteers "Sumando Energias" who are trying to build for the poor people system using solar energy for water heating.
"This is a poor community and sometimes we have no light. There is no water. This solar panel from recycled material helps a lot, because we have children... So we get warm water when we have no electricity", — says a local resident.
How the system works? She is brilliant and simple at the same time. It is produced from used drinks bottles, plastic containers and packages of milk after processing.
The sun heats the solar energy receiver, the hot water flows into the container. Volunteers painted the pipe black to attract solar radiation. The collector maintains the temperature of the heated water throughout the night, without gas or electric heating.
"In my opinion rational ecological development is an important trend which we should develop. We throw away too much today, and not only in developing countries. I believe that the developed countries must also go the way of smart development. Developed countries are the major polluters" — says the participant of the project "Energias Sumando" Julien Lorenson.
A third of Argentines live below the poverty line. Almost 17% of the population lack water, the study says the Argentine statistics Agency last September.
The project provides access to renewable energy for poor people and can significantly improve the living conditions of the South American nation with great natural resources. Due to the increasing number of volunteers "Sumando Energias" hopes to build panels for 3 thousand families a year.
"Argentina has a huge potential to use energy from the sun and wind. To explain better: if we had the same opportunities as in Germany, in the province of Santa Cruz in Buenos Aires or in the North, where a lot of sun, we could produce energy and provide it, not only Argentina, but also neighbouring countries," says Pablo Castano, co-founder of "Sumando Energias".
Since 2014, a non-governmental organization has installed 36 panels and offers a two day training for those who want to learn the technology of recycling scrap materials in solar collectors. Volunteers attract local families in the process of building a mechanism and train them in waste management.
"There are things the trash we throw away, and it pollutes the environment, but we can use it for practical purposes, for example, hot water in the house. Very good to recycle. I had never done this before. I just threw away, bottles, etc. Earlier the garbage stood in plastic bags, so as a community service didn't come to pick him up," says angel Gulari, a resident of Garin.
Argentina seems to be on the right track. In 2005, Buenos Aires became the first Latin American city voted for a policy of "No waste". The capital of Argentina has pledged to recycle from 4 to 5,000 tons of garbage that people throw out every day. published
