NXP has introduced a new solution for unmanned vehicles

NXP Semiconductors, which is soon going to devour Qualcomm, introduced a series of new products for the market of self-driving cars. A new microcontroller will improve the radar's Autonomous vehicles, the second solution is aimed at improving the efficiency of transportation, and the third product is a joint development of NXP and Cohda Wireless.

The new development aims to manage the columns of Autonomous trucks

The microcontroller S32R27 performance four times ahead of the current solution. This will increase the accuracy of radar systems, to improve the obstacle detection and to increase reliability of Autonomous vehicles. As noted, to date, about 50% of all radar modules on cars shipped in 2016, is using NXP technology. So the company can rightly be considered a leader in this field. S32R27 already shipped to partners, and serial deliveries will start in the second half of 2017.

The second product is a joint development NXP, DAF Trucks, Honda and Siemens. The new product provides 30 times the best reaction time compared to human control. According to the developers, their solution will allow to better manage the columns of trucks. It is expected to reduce fuel costs by 10 %.

Improved detection of motorcyclists on the road. Due to the high speed reaction distance between trucks in the columns has been reduced. Next, the developers plan to reduce the distance by 40% in 2017 (up to 0.3 s, or about seven meters at a speed of 80 km/h). This intensive use of technology communication between cars. The new development was demonstrated in Munich.

In collaboration with Cohda Wireless, NXP plans to improve the system of decision-making on the road that will handle the data from traffic lights, information obtained from radar and also from the surrounding vehicles. In particular, Cohda Wireless will provide its advanced algorithms. published
