Big Ben renamed!!!

In the UK officially renamed the famous Clock tower of Westminster Palace, more commonly known as big Ben. Now it is called the Elizabeth tower in honour of the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.


At the renaming ceremony at the foot of the tower was presided over by the speaker of the house of Commons John Berkou. The UK authorities took the decision in June. The renaming was voted more half of members of the house of Commons and the leaders of the three main parliamentary factions. The tower is 96,3 metres was built by English architect Augustus pyudzhina in 1858.


On the four sides of the tower located seven dials, at the base of each of which is an inscription in Latin: "Domine Salvam fac Reginam nostram Victoriam primam" ("God bless Queen Victoria"). The nickname big Ben, she received the title of one of the six bells. Why the 13-ton bell called Big Ben is still not exactly known. According to one version, it got its name after sir Benjamin Hall, who supervised the work on his casting. According to another version, the big Ben was named in honor of Benjamin count, very popular at the time boxer in heavy weight.
