Café Knoll Ridge is located on the territory of Tongariro National Park in New Zealand. A breathtaking view in itself was enough to become a successful project. But the designers of the HB Architecture did everything possible to further improve your impression with stunning architecture. The cafe is located on the hillside, close to the commercial ski slope. Moreover, it is the largest in New Zealand, an active volcano.
Café Knoll Ridge replaced the eponymous Chalet destroyed by a fire in February 2009. On the way to the implementation of the project, the architects have faced a number of challenges, including constantly changing weather conditions in the region, and the rugged terrain. As a result, the design was collected from a multitude of parts manufactured in advance and delivered here by helicopter. The maximum load was 800 kg, which has also introduced a number of restrictions. Concrete Foundation, steel beams and high-strength glass that can withstand winds of up to 200 km/h and very low temperatures, form the basis of the building. In winter, even a three-meter layer of snow are not terrible stable the roof. As for the finish, it is widely used in interior wood, which makes dining more intimate and warm, reminiscent of traditional chalets in the mountains. Inside you can admire the landscape while enjoying a Cup of hot tea or coffee, and all thanks to the transparent façade, which left twenty-five tons of glass. The cafe is able to accommodate 400 guests, and a spacious summer terrace is also on 200 people.
