Holy cross monastery Bashny.Net

Founded in 1650 as a monastery in honor of exaltation of the Holy cross of the Lord Abbot Lubensky mgarsky monastery, Kalistrat, with the assistance of Poltava Colonel Martyn Pushkar, and other Cossack officers and burghers. Became the most southern among the regimental monasteries of the Hetman state of XVII century, has experienced many invasions and Tatar, and Cossack. In may 1709, the monastery was the residence of Charles XII.


Troitskaya Church at Holy cross monastery in Wayne is not intended to be a masterpiece of architecture. It is quite simple, short, has only one tier and single dome, but for all that it organically fits into the architectural ensemble and is its integral part.


The building, which attracts the attention of tourists – four-bell tower. Its height составляет47 meters. Italian architectural styling is complemented by some elements of the Ukrainian Baroque.


During the war with Swedes, here was the rate of Charles XII. In the first half of the XX century, the monastery was closed and ransacked the premises used the NKVD as a prison for minors, then as a boarding school. The complex was returned to Church in 1991
