The Royal Palace in Amsterdam

The Royal Palace is located in the heart of Amsterdam. Its construction was started in 1648 when the city authorities commissioned the architect Jacob baths to Kampen to develop a new town hall with the power and status of the Dutch Golden age of prosperity. The Palace is built of yellow Sandstone which is extracted in the German town of Bentheim. Completed in 1665, the building served briefly as the hall of the magistrate (Town Hall). In 1808, Louis-Napoleon during his reign as king of the Netherlands, brother of the French Emperor Napoleon declared it his personal residence.


Royal Palace — the eighth wonder of the world, according to the Dutch — rests on stilts. Them for the construction of the Palace took almost 14 thousand. Built in 1665 by Jacob van Campen in the Central square of the city of Ladies, it is a fine example of classical Dutch architecture.
