The American has created an unusual robot caterpillar

Engineers at the University of Maryland (USA) have invented a robot spy, which resembles either a worm, or caterpillar. This "kid", which on the front has a camera, he called the name R2G2. Full name — Rоbot with Rеctilinear Gаit for Grоund оperations — "Robot with a rectilinear movement for ground operations."
First, the main drawback of the spy was speed. The robot moved like a snake and was very slow. Fixed R2G2 moves in a straight line like a caterpillar, and now can reach a maximum speed of 1.6 kilometers per hour, which is comparable with the leisurely step of a man.

One of the creators of R2G2 James Hopkins in the future wants to create an elongated version of his brainchild, which will allow to significantly increase the speed capabilities of the robot. According to the developer, in the future, R2G2 will be capable of speeds up to 3.2 kilometers per hour. Compared to other similar robots, he easily moves on naklonnoi surface, and also to cope with such complex coatings, like grass and sand.

We remind that recently was created the robot crab, who will explore the site of the shipwreck.
