Japan will help develop renewable energy in Kamchatka

Yesterday in Tokyo, the fourth investment of the Russian-Japanese forum was signed several important documents in the framework of Russian-Japanese cooperation in the field of renewable energy. The first of these was a Declaration of intent, signatures under which have put the representatives of the Government of the Kamchatka region, the company "RAO ES of East" and Japanese governmental organization NEDO.

The second document was the Memorandum of understanding participants of which were already mentioned above, Russian officials and Japanese companies Mitsui & Co and Komai Haltec Inc. According to the text of the Memorandum, its main purpose is the implementation of a pilot project to connect three 300-kilowatt wind turbines in the village of Ust-Kamchatsk, two of which built on the standards of work in Arctic conditions, to local centralized power system. At the forum the representatives of Mitsui & Co., and Komai Haltec Inc. presented the feasibility study of this project, and in consultation with experts NEDO, will begin the active phase of implementation.

The Declaration of intent, it implies a major expansion of wind power plants in isolated regions of the far East. At the same time, the basis of its embodiment in life will be the successful implementation of the Ust-Kamchatsky project and confirmation in the course of its operation, the project economic feasibility.

Representatives of the "RAO ES of the East" at the forum said that now the prospects for the development of wind energy are seen most optimistic in several far Eastern regions. We are talking about Kamchatka, Yakutia, Chukotka, and Khabarovsk Krai. The first projects realized in this direction showed its obvious advantage over the laying of power lines from centralized networks, and in the short term, the region could massively switch to renewable energy.
