Ghosts Whodo-the Jerusalem Church: the myths and research
Along with the myths and legends of the past, we can now talk about the so-called modern urban mythology that is born and develops before our very eyes. Unfortunately, in our troubled time information, big inventions and small however, according to the principle of Goebbels, so much interwoven that people seriously begin to believe that in this house from time immemorial haunted, and that Park has long inhabited by devils.
In Irkutsk to a typical urban mythology relates the legend of the Boarded-up Church" and mystical prejudices about Central Park of culture and rest. These two modern myth common, above all, geographical reference. The same "Boarded up Church" (now Whoda Jerusalem Church) located in the territory of the Central Park, which is in turn located on the site of the old Jerusalem cemetery. Such irony, perhaps, was capable of only Communist regime, which with the light hand changed the ancient cemetery to the amusement Park for the citizens of Irkutsk. Gravestones still meet in the Park, but also in the structure of some buildings of Irkutsk.
Obviously, all this could not mystify this place, giving the Park and a long abandoned Church, a bunch of paranormal stories. The people began to pass the Park side, there are stories of encounters with ghosts, with some shadows. In addition to supernatural threats, was mention of criminals and addicts who have been camped in the Park. Over all this "dark" atmosphere stood the old building of an abandoned Church, which was perceived as the Church of the novel Gogol's "Viy", where he settled evil. To adequately understand all these stories, we, for several years (with long intervals), studied these "mystical places" in the city center.
