Classic and avant-garde Finnish eco-fashion



Finnish company Marimekko is famous for more than half a century minimalist cut and a riot of graphic fantasies embodied in immaculate techniques of printed patterns. The company's founder Armi Ratia from the beginning, serious attention to the ethical dimension of the enterprise, built a village for the accommodation of staff and community work, design, which became the Scandinavian pioneers of mass machine production of printed patterns, the splendour of which affects high adaptability and finesse that it requires perfecting to this day.


An important merit of the company lies in strict adherence to the principles of ecological production, which is 80% is in the EU, including the Baltic States and Finland, where the main enterprise for production of printed textiles. For the Finnish company, operating on natural gas, a recuperation system of heat production for space heating, the waste water is recycled and filtered, the absence of toxic substances in the production of confirmed eco-textile certification Oeko-Tex.


Organic cotton, linen, wool and cellulose fibers are used to produce collections with a variety of patterns. Cut tailored to reduce waste of fabric, scraps are used to make patchwork bags or carpets.
