Energy-independent cottage on an island in British Columbia

Canadian architectural firm MGB has built a country house for a young family from British Columbia. Located on Gambir Island, northwest of Vancouver, on the precipitous shore of the bay, it is accessible only by water, and completely devoid of any communications. The latter circumstance forced the developers of the project to provide housing with autonomous means of energy supply and heating. To emphasize the indented relief of the site, the architects used simple rectangular shapes in the design, and wood and glass were used as the main building materials. According to them, the main idea of the project was to create “an improved version of the classic cabin in the forest, combining the comfort of a modern home and minimal impact on the environment”.
