Gabonese viper or cassava

The Gabonese viper or cassava (Latin Bitis gabonica) is considered to have the longest poisonous teeth in the world. In some cases, they reach 5 cm, which makes this snake very dangerous. The deadly poison is injected deep into the victim's tissue, leaving the unfortunate no chance.

However, some sources say that the Gabonese viper is so phlegmatic that it can literally be dragged by the tail. However, you should not experience fate: a person bitten by a cassava without medical care lives only 4 hours.

In addition, this snake hunts from an ambush, which is why it is able to lie for a long time, depicting a log. However, if the victim comes close enough, there will be no trace of the phlegmatic predator. A sharp throw, a bite, a few twitches of prey and you can start dinner.

The Gabonese viper lives in central and eastern Africa. Here she prefers forests, where it is convenient to hide in a thick litter. The color of the snake is ideal for camouflage. Numerous colorful triangles, rectangles and diamonds, generously scattered around the body, as if divide it into small parts, helping the predator to hunt for prey.

Cassava feeds on rodents, wild cats, hares, mongoose and other warm-blooded ones, which it waits for at dusk. This is a rather large and heavy snake. With a body length of 1 to 2 meters, it can weigh about 10 kg.

Of course, with this ratio, the reptile seems thick and clumsy. But thanks to its size, it can cope with large prey. Remember, appearances are deceiving!
